So I’m rewatching the bombing of North London, aka the Arsenal vs Bayern Munich Champions League first leg tie, and after the first bomb was dropped the camera pans to this clown:
A word, ridiculous.
Let’s start with the garb, he’s wearing quite a bit of FCB gear (hat, jacket, scarves), borderline “full kit wanker”. The scarf(-f ves), is a mainstay of supportership, but this guy takes it to a new level. He has three visible scarves. He is wearing one as a pseudo neck tie. The other two he has tied on each of his wrists. Individually, none of this is all that weird or odd, but taken as a whole, this seems Liberace-esque. Throw in a boa, and this guy gets front of the line treatment at Studio 54.
But wait, there’s more…
Are those half-scarves? Now, I have absolutely no qualms with anyone supporting as many or as few clubs as they want. It doesn’t bother me in the slightest, to each’s own. But would you wear your Real Madrid scarf to an Arsenal / Bayern tie? (If it’s a collector’s item from a previous match, then leave it at home with the collection.) The scarf on his right arm appears to also be a half-scarf, but I can’t exactly make out for whom his heart beats. (For a deeper analysis on the half-scarf phenomenom, please check out this article). If I were to extrapolate from the visible evidence, it’s possible to believe that he is also wearing an AC Milan shirt, Benfica shorts, Ajax socks, and Liverpool underwear? I’m just saying, it’s possible.
But wait, there’s more…
This is all fashion police non-sense, humorous yes, but harmless. What really makes this a masterpiece of ridiculous are the two extended birds. This is the away representation of FCB supporters, or in this guys cases the full-kit, half-scarved, club ambiguous wankers. Maybe I’m a bit of an etiquette nutter, maybe I care too much (probably still bitter about the loss), but show some damn class; sing, clap, cheer, even boo, but any middle fingers should strictly be sat on, especially since you are already winning seven minutes into the match.
I know this is the exception and not the rule. Every group of supporters have classless folks, without a doubt, but that doesn’t mean we don’t get to have a laugh when one of them makes it onto globally televised programming.
Cheers from a Gooner looking for a laugh!
